Have you been despairing, feeling helpless as war rages in the Ukraine?
I have. And like you, along with millions of other people, I’ve consistently prayed for mercy, protection, comfort, and strength for the Ukrainian people trapped in the living nightmare of an evil aggressor.
I have watched brokenhearted the atrocities committed against innocent women and children. And I have grown frustrated and angry listening to all the reasonable excuses the world’s leaders have for not acting in defense of this sovereign nation.
Then the Lord led me to read the words of Proverbs 21:1 above, and my prayers changed.
If God can turn the heart of a single king wherever He will, like a stream of water in His hand, then surely, He can turn the collective hearts of the world’s leaders to no longer be paralyzed by fear and take action to save the Ukrainian people from the clutches of the Red Bear.
My prayer along with mercy, protection, peace, and courage to hupomeno (Greek; to remain, endure spiritually) is this:
Oh, God, have You not shown Yourself mighty to save Your people again and again in the infallible truths of Your Word?
Can you not do the same now? You are immutable. You have not changed. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Will you not? Show us your strength as You have done before! Change the hearts and minds of the kings of the world. Grant them wisdom. Grant them courage for the living of these days.
We wait with joyful expectation for You to act in ways far greater than we could ever ask or imagine. We will sing and praise Your power among the nations! To You be all glory and honor, Oh, God.
We pray these words, not in our righteousness, but the righteousness of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus. Amen.
