Do you have a puddle of pink under your car?

If so—not good. That pinkish-red (yellow, blue or green) liquid you see is coolant or antifreeze leaking from your radiator. Your car needs that fluid to keep from overheating—and  you need to plug the leak before critical damage to the engine occurs!

When the engine is cool, pop the hood and look for the sea-through reservoir where antifreeze is kept. Some older vehicles have no coolant reservoir, so you’ll have to open the cap of the radiator to check. If the levels are low, head to Walmart or an auto parts store, buy some premixed, ready to roll antifreeze, and when the engine is cool refill the reservoir and take the car to a mechanic and ask him to check the cause of the leaks.

In much the same way we need to check the level of our spiritual living water / Holy Spirit reservoir for leaks and continually refill it. The great American evangelist and publisher, D. L. Moody beautifully explained this with the following illustration: “No one who has ever walked through a desert says, ‘One good drink of water is enough for the week!’ No, when you are trekking through the desert you need water daily, hourly.” And when asked why he had to be filled with the Spirit so often he simply said, “Because I leak.”

The rough roads of life we travel and drains of everyday living cause all of us to leak. Beneath the surface, out of sight, tiny leaks begin one drip-drip at a time that can drain us of the presence and power of God in our lives. Left unattended we’ll end up like a car pulled to the side of the road, powerless and overheated with a cloud of steam billowing from beneath the hood.

Check for spiritual leakiness today. Ask God to help you plug the spiritual drains of negative influences, busyness, materialism, envy, jealousy and unforgiveness—just to name a few. Pray, stay in the scriptures and be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit.
