Here’s a way to keep the true meaning of Christmas shining. An Advent Wreath with a candle for each Sunday leading to Christmas Day.

  • The candles are placed in a circular wreath to symbolize God’s unending love.
  • Evergreen decorations are an expression of eternal life in Christ.
  • Three purple candles – the traditional color of Advent- stand as a time ofremembrance and personal reflection, thinking about what Christ’s coming to be withus means.
  • One pink candle – Like the rosy color of breaking dawn, signifies the soon coming ofJesus, The Light of the world.
  • In the center of the wreath is one large white candle- The Christ Candle, lit onChristmas morning.

The first candle is the Prophecy Candle.
Lit in remembrance of the words of the prophets who foretold Christ’s birth with 100%
accuracy in more than 80 specific prophecies.

The second candle is the Bethlehem Candle.
Though He is the King of Kings and Savior of the world, God chose to have Jesus be born
in a shelter for animals in the small and insignificant town of Bethlehem. As we reflect on
His humble beginnings, we look forward to the day He will return to Jerusalem in majesty
and glory to judge the living and the dead.

The third candle is the Angel Candle.

God’s special messengers, His angels, surrounded the birth of Christ. Gabriel told the Virgin
Mary she would be The Messiah’s mother. The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a
dream, telling him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife, and on the night of Jesus’ birth,
a multitude of angels appeared to the shepherds with the glorious news of His arrival.
Angels were also present later at His resurrection and ascension into heaven and will
accompany Him when He returns. Angels are God’s messengers of hope, love, warning,
and joy, and their candle is lit in remembrance of The One they came to tell us of.

The fourth candle is the Candle of Hope.
Different from the others, this pink candle shines with the promise of hope and light in the
darkness that is ours in Christ. Jesus, Light of the World, came to earth, bringing hope to
the hopeless and salvation to all who will receive Him. With joy and great anticipation, we
await the breaking of dawn and the coming celebration of Christmas Day.

The White Christ Candle.
This is lit on Christmas morning, before other gifts are unwrapped, with thanks to God for
the greatest gift of all: His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life.

As you light, and re-light these candles each Sunday,
I pray you will know how deeply God loves you
and have a holiday season filled with comfort and joy.
