Oh, God, when we have food,
help us to remember the hungry.
When we have work,
help us to remember the jobless.
When we have a warm home,
help us to remember the homeless.
When we are without sickness and pain,
help us to remember those who suffer.
When we are near to family and friends,
Help us to remember the lonely.
And remembering,
help us to destroy our complacency.
Stir us to compassionate action.
Make us aware and concerned enough to help
by word and deed, those who cry out for what
we so easily take for granted.
Accept our thanks, dear Lord,
on this day of thanks-giving
for all You have done for us
and those we love—but most especially,
we want to thank You for Jesus.
“For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me…”
Matthew 25:35
