What a disappointment!  We arrived at Yellowstone National Park eagerly anticipating the scheduled eruption of the famous geyser, Old Faithful. For my entire life I had heard that Old Faithful erupted, like clock-work, on the hour.  As  the time forecast for the next eruption neared, I gathered with the crowd, camera at the ready and waited. The time of the anticipated eruption came and went with no sign of the geyser’s 180 foot jetting plum. The crowd began to murmur and my enthusiasm began to wane. Thirty five minutes after the predicted time the eruption did take place and the display was spectacular. But my faith in the faithfulness and reliability of “Old Faithful” was destroyed forever.

What if God were like that?  What if, instead of being eternally faithful, He was just pretty faithful?  We could never rely fully on His faithfulness to hear us when we pray, be with us through hard times or keep His promises. But the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is not like Old Faithful. How wonderful it is to know that, in this ever changing world, God and His Word never change. People and world famous geysers may only be pretty faithful, disappoint us, let us down and break our hearts, but God will always and forever remain  faithful to us and to His Word.

If you are going through a difficult time, especially if someone has been unfaithful, try using the Bounce! Don’t Break… formula for a bounce-back from your set-back:

LOOK UP:  You may think your troubles are out of God’s reach – but that is not true! When we cry out to God acknowledging our need for help, assurance, wisdom and guidance beyond ourselves and our resources, God hears and answers. Pray. Transfer your burdens to His strong shoulders; enter the shelter of His love and wait in expectant joyful faith and hope for Him to see you through the storm.

Isaiah 25:4 says,”… for you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.
