4 Things To Stop Doing In 2016!

Is the beginning of the New Year bringing you comfort and joy or chaos and jangled nerves?

As the pages of our calendars begin to fill, instead of focusing on what to do to be more successful, productive and reach the goals we’ve set for the New Year, how about focusing on what not to do.  o be successful, productive and reach the goals we’ve set for the New Year?  How about switching our focus and stop doing these four things to restore peace and gentleness in our lives?

  1. Stop Holding Grudges & Trying To Live Life With Hate In Your Heart!

It’s been said that hanging on to anger, unforgiveness, hatred and a desire for revenge is like drinking poison and then hoping the other person will die.  Do yourself a favor and forgive. Take it to God in prayer. Leave it in His hands and let it go.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

  1. Stop Worrying!

Worry will not strip tomorrow of its burdens, it will strip today of its joy. It’s like a rocking chair.  It’ll keep you busy but it’ll get you nowhere – and if you keep it up long enough it will wear you out!  But if you’re just a natural born worrier and can’t help yourself here’s what you need to do:

Get yourself a nice hot cup of your favorite beverage and set a timer for five minutes.  Sit down, and while you enjoy your cup of coffee or whatever, do all your worrying at once! Then, if you start to worry again during the rest of the day remind yourself that you’ve already done all your worrying for the day and let it go!

“Who among you can add a single hour to your life by worrying? Matthew 6:27

  1. Stop Negative Thinking & Watch What You Say!

Think about what you’re thinking about and what you’re saying.  The moment we choose to take responsibility for our thoughts and our words – and stop acting as if there is nothing we can do about them – we begin the positive process of rejoicing in the day the Lord has made.

“Friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse… Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” Philippians 4:8-9The Message

  1. Stop trying to “fix” other people.

Do what you can to help others, but don’t keep enabling someone who refuses to take responsibility for their own life.

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Romans 12:18

Finally, take time to stop overlooking the beauty of small moments.  Enjoy the little things – they make up the big things.
