Ever feel like throwing in the towel?

We all do from time-to-time. And though it may be good to walk away from unhealthy relationships or a bad work environment, there are some things worth fighting for. Your marriage, your kids, your health, the work God has called you to.

Before you go burning any bridges try this:

Go outside for a ten-minute walk, LOOK UP and ask yourself these three questions:1. Am I letting my ego get the best of me?

I’m pretty good at accepting professional rejection. But recently I made the huge mistake of taking a publisher’s rejection personally and let my wounded ego set me to wondering, Why do I even bother? Which is the second thing to ask yourself when you feel like giving up.2. Why is this so important anyway?

Without a crystal-clear answer to that question you won’t have the purpose driven passion needed to push through the present pain and keep going. For me the answer was my favorite quote by Emily Dickenson: If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not have lived in vain.3. What’s the worst that can happen if I give this another try?

If the answer to that question is not—“It would be the ruination of me or another person, or literally kill me,” then what’s stopping you from giving it another go? Who knows? Maybe this set-back is a set-up for an amazing come-back. Throw in the towel now and you’ll miss the opportunity to learn and grow from the experience. As for me, I’m going to give it another go with another publisher.  What will you do?  LOOK UP or give up?
