It’s over, and now you’re over it too.  Bravo!

You’ve cried your tears, washed your face, re-applied lipstick and are moving on.

That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

They don’t call you the “Bounce Back Kid” for nothing!

And then it happens.

Without warning another unwanted change—way bigger than you are—looms like a giant on the horizon.  You lose your job, the county takes your front yard to widen a road, your teenage daughter gets pregnant, health issues become chronic, loss of loved ones leave you devastated and alone.  Giants come in many shapes and sizes, and as your giant moves toward you his taunting, “whatcha gonna do now, little Christian,” fills you with doubt and fear.

You can’t even remember where you left your slingshot and even if you did, there’s doesn’t seem to be a decent sized rock in sight.  So, what are you gonna do?  I’ll tell you what you’re gonna do.  You are going to ready yourself.  You are going to face that giant, knock him down to size and defeat him with these two things:

  1. Memory:

You’re going to remember who you are and Whose you are.

You are a child of God.

And God is Who He says He is.

Even if you don’t know or can’t remember much about that right now—for sure you know about this:

Christmas: Jesus came to earth wrapped in human flesh as a baby.

Easter:  He was crucified on a cross, died, was buried and then rose again.

The day you believed: When you invited Him to be LORD of your life—He accepted that invitation on a permanent basis. His Holy Spirit is alive and active in you.

Remember:  He’s brought you this far—so, what makes you think He’s going to stop now?

  1. Faith:

You are going to muster all the faith you have—and you don’t need much.

Faith the size of a mustard seed will do just fine.

God has promised He will take the gift of faith He has given you and use it in a mighty way.

As you reach out to God with the faith you have, He’s rolling up His sleeves and moving towards you!

That may not sound like much of a battle plan right now, but please believe me when I tell you they are two key ingredients for bouncing through and back the setbacks and unwanted changes of life.  What makes me so sure? The way I’ve seen the power of faith and doubt in my life and in the lives of others.

Faith believes that with God’s help we can do anything God has called us to do.

“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” Philippians 4:13 Amplified Bible

Doubt, like the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz, believes the challenge is too difficult for you—that victory is beyond your reach—and ultimately succumbs to fear.

Cowardly Lion: “All right, I’ll go in there for Dorothy. Wicked Witch or no Wicked Witch, guards or no guards, I’ll tear them apart. I may not come out alive, but I’m going in there. There’s only one thing I want you fellows to do.”

Tin Woodsman & Scarecrow: “What’s that?“

Cowardly Lion: “Talk me out of it!”

So, what are you going to do?

I pray you will ready yourself, and in the power and name of Jesus, bounce through and back from any setback or unwanted change you’re facing in your journey today.

Courage Pilgrim – you’ve got what it takes!
