I pray the summer’s been sunshine, sandy beaches and mountain vistas for you. Post a photo!
But there’s always a chance you may be reading this when responding, “all the time” in response to the popular mantra, “God is good,” is just not something you’re feeling or even want to say. Actually, it makes you mad and kind of sad.
And that’s okay—because God’s big enough to take our anger, doubt, frustration and fear. He is good, even when we don’t think or feel it.
Hang on one-more-day.
A favorite teacher of God’s Word, Pastor James McDonald, beautifully shares specific actions to take when life and faith are hard:
STOP DOING THESE 3 THINGS!
1. STOP TRYING TO FIX IT.
When you’ve done all you can, let it go.
“Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything…Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10 The Message and NIV
2. STOP REVIEWING THE SITUATION.
Quit rewinding the DVD and replaying the scenes over and over again in your mind.
Let those thoughts pass by and choose to begin looking for improvement.
“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” Philippians 4:6-7 The Message
3. STOP RIDING THE EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER.
Up, down, up, down… It’s sickening to your soul. Get off! Get to the place where you can find and keep your balance again.
“God is good, a hiding place in tough times. He recognizes and welcomes anyone looking for help, no matter how desperate the trouble.” Nahum 1:7 The Message Go to Him!
DO THIS ONE THING.
The thing that love does.
- Love never gives up.
- Trusts God always.
- Always looks for the best.
- Never looks back,
- But keeps going to the end.
Taken from I Corinthians 13:4-8 The Message
Remember that you’re not alone and somebody cares about you.
I’m praying this, right now, especially for you:
“May the God of green hope fill you up with joy; fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit that brims over with hope!” Romans 15:13 The Message
