Alone, But Not Really

There are moments when life slows you down just long enough to remind you’re not alone.

Mine recently came standing in my kitchen.

I had been using a new mandolin slicer—confident, comfortable, and moving a little too quickly.
The safety glove and guide sat nearby, untouched. I didn’t think I needed them.

Moments later, I knew I had made a mistake.

Living alone, I paused, took a breath, and did what I could. But it became clear I needed more
help than I could give myself. So, I wrapped my hand as best I could, picked up my keys, and
headed to the emergency room.

As I drove, I realized I didn’t feel afraid. I didn’t feel abandoned or overwhelmed. Instead, there
was a quiet steadiness—an awareness that I was not alone in this mishap.

God was with me.

Not in a dramatic way, but in a calm, reassuring presence that settled my thoughts and steadied
my hands. I understood something I often say but don’t always fully experience: His presence
doesn’t depend on my circumstances—it goes with me wherever I am.

In the care I received, in the calm that carried me there, and even in the lesson I won’t soon
forget, I could see His hand.

Yes, I’ve slowed down since then. Yes, I use the glove and the guide.

But more than that, I carry a deeper awareness—that even when life catches me off guard, even
when I must face something scary on my own, I am never truly alone.

God is with me—every step, every mile, every moment.

Today, whatever road you find yourself on, take a moment to pause and remember—you don’t
have to travel it alone. God is waiting and ready to go with you.

With you on the journey ~ Penny
