What are you celebrating this Christmas?

When Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life and The Purpose of Christmas asked that question, he received answers like:

“I’m celebrating that I made it through another year.”

“I’m celebrating being home with family.”

“I got a Christmas bonus.”

“I’m not celebrating anything; I’m just trying to survive.

The bad news is: None of those answers have anything to do with Jesus.

The good news is:  There’s still time to pause, reflect and celebrate the actual meaning of the season.

So, what’s there to celebrate?

It’s all in the angel’s opening statement to the shepherds of Bethlehem the night of Jesus’ birth.

“I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.” Luke 2:10

God had wonderful news for all of us to rejoice, celebrate and throw a party.

  1. It’s personal – I bring YOU.
  2. It’s positive – GOOD news of great joy.
  3. It’s universal – for ALL people.

It doesn’t matter who you are, what you’ve done, where you’ve been or where you’re headed – this news is for you.

God loves you.

God is with you.

God is for you.

And that’s something to celebrate!
