Do you ever find yourself engaged in an inner monologue when performing mindless tasks? I do, especially when I’m folding laundry, watering the garden, or doing the dishes. Unfortunately, the impressions that slide into my awareness are not always especially helpful or nourishing.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is I have the power to control my thoughts—and so do you.
We can choose to stop, ask ourselves, What was I thinking? and reverse the negative bias of our idle thoughts. We can replace stinkin’-thinkin’ with positive, bounce-back thoughts. We can think about something good, something true, something wonderful. We can choose to change our minds and focus on one of these powerful, positive thought changers.
6Powerful Positive Thought Changers
1.) Think of something good about yourself. Think of something good about someone close to you.
2.) Think of something good about the day ahead, something good about life in this world, about the possibilities that extend out in front of you right now.
3.) Think about the beauty, the wonder of how small actions can make such a big difference.
4.) Think of something good about the situation you’re in—about all you can do to make it even better—bounce back quicker from it—and how you can contribute to the way it unfolds
5.) Think of all you can do to give life more meaning, more substance, more joy.
6.) Tell yourself something good, and let that goodness come to life through you.
Think about what you’re thinking about!
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it,” and “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Proverbs 4:23 and 2 Corinthians 10:5
You’re not alone – and somebody cares about you.
